Suggestion: The Dr. Martens 1460 Classic Boots weigh 3.5 pounds for shipping. I used a cheaper shipping service, but still had to pay $15.50 in shipping fees. So, if Amazon offers direct shipping, it’s a good idea to choose that option.
(A) Recommendations for Dr. Martens Shoes
(B) Fun Facts about Dr. Martens Shoes:
In Germany, 1945, Dr. Klaus Martens injured his foot while skiing in the Alps. During his recovery, to make walking easier, he and a friend developed an “air-cushioned sole” by injecting air into rubber from tires. They registered this design, initially creating orthopedic shoes for German women with foot or back problems.
By 1959, these shoes became popular across Europe. Martens and his friend decided to sell the design to the British company R. Griggs Group.
The first design was the 8-eyelet 1460 model. Originally created for Docklands police officers, it received great acclaim and naturally entered the market, becoming a cultural icon across different eras.
Shopping Process
(A) On October 24, 2024, at 15:47, Dr. Martens sent out this message: Special Notice: This model promotes environmentalism and is made from eco-friendly synthetic leather, not genuine leather.
(B) Although it’s not made of genuine leather, considering the chilly winters in the UK, I didn’t hesitate to place an order on the day I saw the recommendation page. The price of the shoes was $61.09.

(C) Shoe Cost = Shoe Price + Shipping Fee + Customs Duty = $61.09 + $15.50.
(D) UK Shipping allowed me to receive my shoes on the third day.
(A) Amazon used a plastic bag for packaging, and the courier was UPS.
(B) After tearing open the plastic bag, I noticed some dents on the shoe box. Considering the long journey, the box being mostly intact is quite good. The center of the Dr. Martens shoe box prominently displays the logo, indicating the identity of the boots inside.

(B) From a 45-degree angle, the shoe box is quite eye-catching, with Dr. Martens logos on all sides. One side of the box has the size information: UK size 8, US men’s size 9, women’s size 10, EU size 42, which is 27 cm. I bought one size larger based on my own situation, which I’ll mention later.

(C) Opening the box, the boots are wrapped in a layer of paper, similar to other shoes. The paper is covered with many cross circles, featuring “Dr. Martens” and “air cushion sole.” This succinctly indicates the identity of the boots and the air-cushioned sole technology.

V. Size and Wearing Experience
- Size Conclusion: The shoe size is normal and consistent with domestic sizing.
- Fit Test: My foot length is close to 26 cm, width 10 cm, with flat feet. I usually wear size 41 in domestic leather shoes. This shoe is size 42 (26 cm), with a bit of extra length; width is just right, no pinching; height has some room, so it should be fine even for normal arches.
- Wearing Experience: The upper is very soft and flexible; creases are not too noticeable. Thanks to the “air cushion sole” design, they are relatively comfortable, though not as cushioned as Rockport leather shoes.
- Upper Material: Not genuine leather, but eco-friendly synthetic leather. It’s a bit of a disappointment. There are genuine leather options available later, priced even lower than this.
